An ongoing problem in the Brooklyn community is litter, whether it be by pure neglect or unamusing fun. Just a few weeks ago, Prospect Park was covered in trash as vandals knocked over garbage cans all over the park. In response, over thirty volunteers have stepped up to clean up the mess. Unfortunately, this incident is not secluded only to parks as many areas of Brooklyn have seen an increase of litter within the covid period. In addition, the pandemic led to an influx of litter and graffiti as more people are stuck at home and certain neighborhoods are not given enough attention. To remedy the problem, around the same time as the Prospect Park incident, the mayor announced a City Cleanup Corps made up of 10,000 new hires across several city agencies to address sanitary problems. This knocks away two problems with one stone as neighborhoods are cleaned up while more jobs are generated for people.
