The community that I would like to focus on for the following semester is the Nepali community in the New York City Area. Specifically, Nepali led non-profit organizations and highlighting some of the issues they have been working to solve in the community, throughout the course of the pandemic and moving forward.

Adhikaar, a Nepali led non-profit organization that promotes human rights and social justice reform for Nepali immigrants.

Mustang Kyidug, another non-profit organization helping the Mustangey-Nepali community that reside in New York, there mission is to preserve and protect their cultural identity with community programs and events and provide financial and necessary resources to new and existing Mustangey immigrants and descendants

I would like to hopefully speak of Adhikaar and Mustang Kyidug’s impact on the Nepali community and current issues they are trying to deal with amidst the ongoing pandemic.

Since the beat is about a general population, highlighting different aspects of the Nepali diaspora is important to me but can also be narrowed down as well, to best fit the creative direction the class is leaning toward.

Pitch Ideas:

I hope to look into social issues such as the hurdles of obtaining Temporary Protection Status (TPS) in the Nepali community and greater, how our cultural identity and language is dying now along with the growing Nepali-American population and how organizations such as Mustang Kyidug is trying to preserve it, also the economic effects of the pandemic on the Nepali community, since many Nepali immigrants work in the service industry, specifically highlighting Nail Salon Workers and the Nail Salon Workers Program by Adhikaar.

Additional feature ideas would include highlighting Nepali owned small businesses throughout the New York City area, there origins and how they are surviving during the pandemic, if applicable.
